How Is Pure Alcohol Content Calculated?

Pure alcohol (g) = Volume (ml) Γ— ABV (%) Γ· 100 Γ— 0.789 (ethanol density, g/ml). For example, a 355ml beer at 5% ABV contains 355 Γ— 0.05 Γ— 0.789 β‰ˆ 14.0g of pure alcohol. Because different drinks (beer, wine, spirits) come in very different serving sizes even at similar ABV, comparing pure alcohol grams is more accurate than comparing "number of drinks."
