How to Use the HEIC to JPG Converter

Upload or drag & drop HEIC (or HEIF) photos taken on an iPhone, and they'll automatically be converted to JPG or PNG. You can add multiple files at once β€” they're processed one after another, each with its own download button once done. Everything runs inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

1. What is HEIC, and why won't my iPhone photos open?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format Apple has used since iOS 11, storing photos at nearly JPG-level quality in roughly half the file size. The catch is that older Windows versions, many Android devices, and older websites or software often can't open HEIC directly, showing errors like "preview not available." That's why photos straight from an iPhone often need to be converted to the far more universally compatible JPG or PNG before you can attach them to an email, upload them to a website, or paste them into a document.

2. Making your iPhone shoot JPG instead of HEIC (iOS Camera settings guide)

If you'd rather your iPhone stop taking HEIC photos going forward, you can fix this from Settings without needing any conversion tool at all.
1) Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2) Go to Camera.
3) Tap Formats.
4) Select Most Compatible β€” from then on, new photos are saved as JPG instead of HEIC (they'll just take up somewhat more storage).

If you just want to export photos you've already taken as JPG without using this converter, you can also do it from the iPhone Photos app: select the photo β†’ tap Share β†’ send it via Mail or "Save to Files," and in most cases it will be automatically converted to JPG. Behavior varies slightly by app, and some share sheets still send the original HEIC, so if you need a guaranteed JPG output, using the converter on this page is the simplest and most reliable option.

3. Converting multiple photos at once, safely

This tool lets you select or drag & drop multiple HEIC files at once, and converts them one at a time in sequence. Because conversion happens entirely in your own browser rather than on a server, even personal or sensitive photos stay private with no risk of being uploaded anywhere. If one of the files in a batch turns out not to actually be a valid HEIC file, or is corrupted, only that file is flagged with an error while the rest continue converting normally.

Frequently asked questions

Are my converted photos stored or sent anywhere?
No. HEIC to JPG conversion runs entirely inside your browser β€” your photo data is never uploaded to or stored on a server.
Should I choose JPG or PNG as the output format?
JPG is the better choice for most photos since it offers great quality at a smaller file size. Choose PNG only if you need a transparent background or lossless quality.
Can I convert several HEIC files at the same time?
Yes, select or drag & drop multiple files at once β€” they'll be converted in order, each getting its own download button as it finishes.
I uploaded a file and got a "Conversion failed" message β€” why?
This usually means the file isn't actually a valid HEIC/HEIF file (for example, its extension was changed) or the file is corrupted. Try re-exporting the original photo from the iPhone Photos app and uploading it again.
