Frequently asked questions
How does this calculator work?
You enter how much you consume (per day or week) of a chosen item and its unit price, and the tool simply multiplies that out over 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1, 3, and 5 years. It does not account for interest or inflation.
Why can I edit the unit price?
Prices for cigarettes, coffee, delivery, and similar items vary by region and brand. The default is a rough average - entering your actual spend gives a more accurate result.
Can I combine savings from multiple items?
The tool simulates one item at a time. To estimate combined savings, calculate each item separately and add the resulting totals together.
Does the projected savings actually accumulate as cash?
The figure shows the cash flow you free up by cutting an expense, not money that is automatically saved or earning interest. You need to actually deposit or invest it for your savings to grow by that amount.
What happens if I enter 0 consumption?
Entering 0 for consumption results in $0 projected savings. If you do not have that habit, try selecting a different item to simulate.
