Frame size recommender

A browser-side result for planning and reference.

GUIDE

What to check before using it

01

When this tool is useful

Use this to find North American photo, A/B-series, or 8R frame candidates near an artwork’s real millimetre dimensions. Results rank physical size difference and allow a 90-degree rotation.

02

How the result is produced

The tool calculates Euclidean distance between input width and height and every candidate, repeats the comparison with the candidate rotated, and keeps the smaller distance. Ratio difference is shown as a secondary note.

03

Worked example and interpretation

A 203 by 254 mm work is very close to 8 by 10 inches and 8R. Use the candidates to decide whether to add a mat, trim the work, or float it in a larger frame.

04

Scope and limitations

Listed sizes are artwork or photo candidates, not guaranteed frame openings. Rabbet, mat, and usable opening dimensions vary, so verify the seller’s measurements before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Which units should I enter in Frame size recommender?
Follow the field labels and example. Width and height in one calculation must use the same unit; mixing pixels, millimetres, and inches makes the result meaningless.
Can I place an order from the rounded Frame size recommender result?
Use it for planning and candidate comparison, then verify the printer or manufacturer’s actual dimensions, allowance, or frame opening before ordering.
Are my Frame size recommender calculations saved?
Inputs and calculations currently stay in the browser and are not saved to an account. Record needed values with their units in your project notes.
