Origin and Meaning of Son-eomneun-nal
Son-eomneun-nal is a traditional Korean auspicious day for moving, referring to lunar dates ending in 9 or 0. Specifically, lunar days 9, 10, 19, 20, 29, and 30 are considered Son-eomneun-nal, occurring about 6 days per month. "Son" refers to wandering spirits or guest gods, and these days are believed to be when such spirits do not visit the human world. Therefore, they are considered good days for important activities like moving, business openings, and home repairs. There is a belief that choosing Son-eomneun-nal for moving brings good fortune to the new home and helps avoid misfortune. This tradition has been passed down as folk belief since the Joseon Dynasty, and many people still consider Son-eomneun-nal when deciding moving dates. Although there is no scientific basis, it remains important for psychological comfort and wishing for a good start.
