History and Principles of the Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique was developed in the late 1980s by Francesco Cirillo. The name comes from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer (pomodoro in Italian) he used as a university student. The core of this technique is 25-minute focused work sessions with 5-minute short breaks, and after 4 repetitions, a long break of 15-30 minutes. These intervals are scientifically based on the brain's concentration span and fatigue recovery cycles.
