Canvas ratio calculator

A browser-side result for planning and reference.

GUIDE

What to check before using it

01

When this tool is useful

Use this to preserve an artwork’s aspect ratio while finding nearby F, P, M, or S canvas numbers. Enter artwork dimensions in millimetres to compare the closest ratio in each series.

02

How the result is produced

The tool divides the longer side by the shorter side, compares that ratio with embedded millimetre tables for each canvas series, and ranks the nearest candidate from every series.

03

Worked example and interpretation

A 300 by 200 mm work has a 1.5:1 ratio. Read the suggested canvas name and physical size, then mark the crop or spare border on a layout sketch.

04

Scope and limitations

Canvas tables can vary by a few millimetres between suppliers, and a ratio match is not an area match. Confirm the seller’s outside and usable dimensions before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Which units should I enter in Canvas ratio calculator?
Follow the field labels and example. Width and height in one calculation must use the same unit; mixing pixels, millimetres, and inches makes the result meaningless.
Can I place an order from the rounded Canvas ratio calculator result?
Use it for planning and candidate comparison, then verify the printer or manufacturer’s actual dimensions, allowance, or frame opening before ordering.
Are my Canvas ratio calculator calculations saved?
Inputs and calculations currently stay in the browser and are not saved to an account. Record needed values with their units in your project notes.
