GUIDE

What to check before using it

01

When this tool is useful

Use this to pull major contours from a photo for an underdrawing or observation exercise. A reference with clear tonal separation usually produces more readable lines.

02

How the result is produced

The image is converted to grayscale, then 3 by 3 Sobel kernels calculate horizontal and vertical intensity gradients. Pixels above a fixed gradient threshold become dark lines; the rest become white.

03

Worked example and interpretation

A portrait on a bright background leaves edges around the silhouette, eyes, and nose where brightness changes sharply. Download the PNG, remove unwanted marks, and use it as an underdrawing.

04

Scope and limitations

A fixed threshold can create too many lines in noisy photos and too few in low-contrast photos. The result is a raster reference, not editable vector line art.

Frequently asked questions

Does Photo to line art converter send my upload to a server?
No. Image reading and canvas processing currently happen in the browser. On a shared device, also manage downloaded files and browser history appropriately.
Does Photo to line art converter preserve the original resolution?
No. Processing uses a fixed preview canvas for performance, so it is not an archival conversion or a replacement for full-resolution editing.
Can I use a PNG from Photo to line art converter commercially?
The tool grants no rights to the source. Upload material you are allowed to use and review copyright, trademarks, and final production quality yourself.
