Unemployment Benefit Information

01

Unemployment benefit requirements

You need at least 180 days of insured period in the 18 months before resignation. You must be willing and able to work but unable to find employment, and you must actively seek re-employment. Involuntary resignation is the rule; voluntary resignation has restrictions. This calculator converts months to days (months Γ— 30) to check the 180-day requirement.

02

Payment calculation

The daily benefit equals 60% of the average wage before resignation. The maximum is 66,000 KRW/day (2024 standard) and the minimum is 63,104 KRW/day (80% of the minimum wage). So 60% of the monthly wage divided by 30 is clamped to the min/max range. The total expected amount is the daily benefit multiplied by the expected payment days.

03

Payment period

For those under 50: less than 1 year gives 120 days, 1-3 years 150 days, 3-5 years 180 days, 5-10 years 210 days, and 10+ years 240 days. For age 50+ or disabled persons the periods are longer (120/180/210/240/270 days).
