How is the tip calculated?

The tip amount is the bill multiplied by the tip percentage: tip = bill × (tip% ÷ 100). The total is the bill plus the tip. If several people are dining together, dividing the total by the number of people gives the per-person amount. This calculator factors in both the tip percentage and the party size to show the exact amounts at once.

What is an appropriate tip percentage?

In countries with a tipping culture like the US, restaurant service is typically tipped 15%-20%. 15% is standard for ordinary service and 18%-20% for good service.
