The Meaning of Baekil and Dol

Baekil (η™Ύζ—₯) is the 100th day after a baby's birth, traditionally celebrating that the baby has grown healthily and praying for continued health. In the past when infant mortality was high, safely passing 100 days was considered a great blessing. Dol (周歲), the first anniversary of birth, grandly celebrates the baby's first birthday. The Doljabi ritual, foretelling the baby's future, is performed alongside the celebration.

02

How Dates Are Calculated

Baekil counts the birth date as day 1, so the 100th day is reached by adding 99 days to the birth date. Dol is exactly one year after the birth date. This calculator computes dates on the solar (Gregorian) calendar and also tells you which day of the week each milestone falls on. If you celebrate by the lunar calendar, dates may differ, so please check separately.

Celebration Planning Guide

It is best to start planning Baekil about 3-4 months in advance and Dol 2-3 months in advance. Photo studio bookings, Doljabi supplies, and catering reservations fill up quickly for popular dates, so act early. Prepare and send invitations 1-2 months ahead and coordinate schedules with family and relatives. Above all, prioritize the baby's health and condition and set a schedule that is not overwhelming.
