Convert Wi-Fi info to QR code for easy sharing.
A Wi-Fi QR code encodes network name (SSID), password, and security type into a single QR code. Scanning the QR code with a smartphone camera automatically connects to Wi-Fi without typing complex passwords. Both Android and iOS support Wi-Fi QR code scanning in their default camera apps. It's extremely convenient for sharing Wi-Fi in cafes, hotels, and offices. Print the QR code and post it on the wall for easy network access.
On iPhone (iOS 11+), launch the default camera app and point at the QR code - a Wi-Fi connection notification appears at the top. Tap to connect automatically. Android (9.0+) uses camera app or Google Lens to scan the QR code and tap "Connect to Wi-Fi" button. Samsung Galaxy uses Bixby Vision or camera app's QR scan feature. You can also use dedicated QR code apps (QR Code Reader, Barcode Scanner). If scanning fails, check if the QR code is clear and lighting is sufficient.
WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) is currently the most secure wireless security standard using AES encryption. WPA2 is recommended for most home and business networks. WPA3 is the latest standard with stronger security but older devices may not support it. WPA (original version) has discovered vulnerabilities and should be upgraded to WPA2. WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) is an old security method easily hacked - never use it. "No Security" should only be used for public networks and avoid transmitting sensitive data.
Guest networks provide internet to visitors while protecting your main network. Enable guest network in router admin page and set separate SSID and password. Guest networks are isolated from main network devices (PCs, NAS, printers). Set bandwidth limits to prevent guests from excessive internet usage. Cafes and offices can print guest network QR codes on walls - staff don't need to verbally share passwords.
The biggest advantage of Wi-Fi QR codes is convenience. No need to verbally communicate complex passwords (e.g., Xk9#mP2$qL7@) or write them on paper. Just scan once to connect instantly. When changing passwords, simply generate and replace with a new QR code. Security is also improved. While passwords written on notepads or whiteboards are visible to everyone, QR codes don't reveal passwords to the naked eye. Especially useful in hotels, Airbnb, cafes, and coworking spaces with many visitors.
Consider security when using Wi-Fi QR codes. First, don't post QR codes on public SNS or websites - anyone can scan and access your network. Second, regularly change passwords and generate new QR codes, especially when employees leave or rental contracts end. Third, separate main and guest networks to protect internal resources. Fourth, enhance security with MAC address filtering or device limit restrictions. Fifth, only use trusted tools for QR code generation.
