1. Understanding Internet Speed Units (Mbps vs MB/s)
Internet speed is displayed in Mbps (megabits per second), but actual download speed appears as MB/s (megabytes per second). Since 1 byte = 8 bits, 100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s. ISPs use Mbps for marketing as it shows larger numbers. 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits/s (decimal), but 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes (binary), causing confusion. Download time calculation: (file size MB × 8) / (speed Mbps). Example: 1GB file at 100 Mbps takes (1024 × 8) / 100 = 81.92 seconds ≈ 1 minute 22 seconds. Reality is slower due to overhead, packet loss, and network congestion.
