How the formula works
For km/L, fuel liters = distance ÷ economy. For L/100km, fuel liters = distance × consumption ÷ 100. For MPG, fuel gallons = distance ÷ MPG.

Traffic, highway speed, cargo load, air conditioning, tire pressure, and driving style can all shift real fuel use away from the official rating. Add a 10-15% buffer for long trips.
